Open Office Hours

The minister's office was a musty sort of place. Not the disquieting must that brings to mind abandoned warehouses and unread tomes. Rather, it is the kind of musty that comes with a well-used but not so well-kept library. The books strewn about the place only added to this impression. Many were marked up and dog eared, with interesting passages jumping out with neon highlights. The place gave off a quiet sense of chaos. Along with the books, documents and knickknacks cover the furniture save for two chairs. The true nightmare for any janitor though was the fact that these things had no other place to go. The bookshelves and desks were stuffed to the brim, and every item in the room was no doubt important. In the center was a large brown desk, oddly organized compared to everything around it. It sports a simple desk lamp, a quill, and a stationary set.

The man behind the desk didn't seem to mind the mess. Alexander Wright, Minister for Magic, had a thousand things to deal with at once. And none of them involved cleaning. His foot tapped rhythmically under the desk as he composed a letter, a half-cocked smile adorning his face. It was Office Hours for him, the time of day when citizens and coworkers could come to him with any questions of concerns they may have. Sometimes an issue would come up and he would have tens of people crowding in to try and talk to him. But most days it was rather dull. The other Ministry Officials knew that Alex was always busy, and tended to only come to him as a last resort. As for the public... things had been oddly quiet lately. It wasn't that the people felt they could not talk to their Minister. More so it seemed there was nothing to talk about. Things had been rather peaceful in the Wizarding World. A good thing, of course, but it did leave Mr. Wright with less company to attend to.

Finishing his letter, he wrapped it up and sealed it neatly. One down, twenty to go. He thought a bit miserably. Even in dead times, bureaucracy kept him busy. His blue eyes would occasionally dart toward the door. It would be nice to go out on a walk right now, perhaps pick up a muffin and clear his head. That wasn't an option though. Office hours were office hours, and on the off chance that someone did need to speak with him, he needed to stay in his musty old office. Well, someone could show up today. He hoped they would. Peace and quiet was well and good, but the old man thought he could go for some excitement. Just nothing... too exciting.
