It was winter break, and Mae hadn't left the castle all year long. She had been helping the Headmistress by covering a few of the positions that didn't have professors in them. With a sigh, she resigned herself to forcing herself to get out. She needed a little air anyway. So she put on one of her favorite sweaters and bundled up as she made her way to Hogsmeade. The streets were covered in snow. Mae found herself shivering after only a few minutes in town. Her first thought was to just go into the nearest shop and then realized that the tea shop was the best place to warm up and pushed on a couple minutes more to make it in. Once she did she looked around and beamed when she saw a familiar face. "Well if it isn't Eris Kerrigan." Mae made her way over to the table before even bothering to order. The two had known one another fairly well when they were back at Hogwarts, and hadn't seen each other in a while. "What are you doing in Hogsmeade?"

Hearing the approach of feet in the snow, Mae turned around. She smiled as she saw Professor Kerrigan approaching. "I don't know that I miss being that young." Maeve chuckled. She remembered how awkward she had been in her first few years at the school. Quiet, unsure of herself, often the last to speak; Mae had been a terribly shy individual in those first few years. It wasn't until she became a Prefect in her 5th year that she began to grow into her own more. "But there are things I miss. People mostly." Donovan's sister was one of them, and probably the one that first came to his mind as she said it--it had been a while since the two of them had gotten to spend any time together. However, it wasn't the one that hurt the most. Alaric. The name came to quickly, as if they had only seen one another yesterday. The truth was that they hadn't spoken since Graduation. Maeve had never quite worked up the courage to tell him how she felt, and now she simply wondered who he had turned out to be. It took a moment for her to collect herself and return her focus to the present. "I'm doing alright. Been a bit stressed with the end of term. My 7th years are really struggling to grasp concepts I know they learned in their third year." She smirked and turned to look over at Don, "But of course I'm the bad guy because I won't give them a break. Transfiguration is hard. They knew that when they chose to continue." Mae sighed. It was a constant battle. Mae was strict, but fair when it came to her classes. She expected people to do thing to the best of their abilities. If they did, she would work with them and meet them halfway. If, however, they were choosing to be lax in their studies--like so many students often do--she was immovable. "What about you?"

Alaric Marlowe and his twin sister Lavinia were Mae's first, and dearest, friends while at Hogwarts. As time went on, however, Alaric became far more than that for Mae. Her friendship became infatuation over time, and Ric was her first love. The two never truly dated, though many onlookers would have thought otherwise, and after graduation it became difficult to keep in contact. Mae never forgot her first love, however. To this day she wonders "what if". I'm not set on the face claim, so if you have someone else in mind I'm pretty flexible. They're just in a show together and dating in real life so it's easier to find pictures together. It was now winter. The students would be leaving for their holiday soon, and Mae had little to do now that midterm grades had already been recorded. Times like this drove her mad. Mae was one who needed to keep busy, so when she had nothing to do she often found herself falling into her more melancholic moods. For the sake of her sanity, she forced herself to leave the castle and go for a walk. The chill of the wind was fairly typical for a Scottish evening. Mae had grown far too used to them as a student here, now that she was a professor they were almost comforting in a way. That strange comfort that one receives from familiarity of something, even if it isn't pleasant. It caused a slight twitch of a smile to cross her face briefly. It was her sole companion as she started her aimless meandering across the school's grounds. Around her she saw students building snowmen and having snowball fights. Her smile grew as she watched some of her Ravenclaw students attempting to create some form of strategy for what appeared to be an all out snow war between second years of all four houses. The laughter in the air was infectious, and just the remedy she had needed to soothe her melancholia. "Much better."
  8. One of the many perks to working at the school, rather than being a student, is that one is no longer required to wear the uniforms. That being said, Mae did not feel it was in anyone's best interest for her to flaunt this luxury in front of her students. Instead she opted for simple black robes, much like she had wore when she was a student. The only embellishment she allowed herself was a navy silk ascot which she tied so that the bow was tilted to her left side. At the front of the dungeon classroom she wheeled up a chalkboard. Upon it she scrawled: Fourth Year Transfiguration Class Agenda Vanishing Spells Classroom Activity As she finished writing the last words, she turned back to face the room. Where on earth will they sit? She thought to herself. "Accio stools!" she called. And from somewhere in one of the storerooms stools entered the classroom and stacked themselves in front of her. "Locomotor Stools!" and with a few flicks of her wand the stools were in their proper places next to the tables. Smiling to herself, she sat on the desk. Showtime!
